Deputy Minister Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu welcomes NFVF partnership

Deputy Minister of Women, Children and People with Disabilities (DWCPD), Hendrietta Bogopane Zulu, welcomed the partnership announced by the Chairperson of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), Mmabatho Ramagoshi at the NFVF Film Indaba held at Emperors Palace Conference Centre today.

The NFVF has committed an amount of R1.5 million towards a 9 provinces documentary proposal by filmmakers with disabilities; appointment of a temporary sign language interpreters to assist with hearing impaired applicants during NFVF training programmes and reservation of two bursaries for people living with disabilities who want to study towards film related studies at any tertiary institutions in South Africa.

“We are pleased with the NFVF’s commitment to transformation in the film industry. The industry is creating inclusivity and access for disabled people.  We look forward to seeing a diversity in content on our screens”, said Deputy Minister Bogopane Zulu.

The Film Indaba is held every four years and seeks industry input on the state and direction of the film industry.

Government is commemorating Disability Awareness Month this from 3 November to 3 December 2013. The international theme proclaimed by the United Nations for this year is: “Removing barriers to create an inclusive and accessible society for all.”
