Deputy Minister Buti Manamela encourages South Africans to donate blood

Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Youth Development and Administration, Buti Manamela today heeded the call by the SANBS for South Africans to donate blood and save lives. This simple act will go a long way in the replenishment of low blood reserves reported in the country.

A single blood donation from an individual can save three lives from the components found in the blood.

"When I heard that the South African National Blood Services was running low on reserves, I knew I had to play my part and donate blood. I feel good now that I have done this, It was a painless procedure and a smooth operation and I will be back again soon," said Deputy Minister Buti Manamela.

Deputy Minister Manamela also encouraged young people to donate blood and commended the young people in schools and universities who are the majority of blood donors. When young people donate blood from a young age they become regular blood donors and continue for a long time.

Black South Africans constitute 30% of blood donors in South Africa, Deputy Minister hopes that his exemplary act would dispel existing myths about about blood donation.

The Imbizo Focus Week activities continued with Deputy Minister Manamela visiting Gladness Nkoana of Tsholorosto Trading and Projects (Pty) Ltd which operates at Bloed Mall Taxi Rank and received R43 000 from the NYDA to purchase a mobile freezer.

Deputy Minister Manamela also paid an unannounced visit to the Mabopane Drivers Learners Testing Centre (DLTC) under the Frontline Service Delivery (FSD) programme conditions at the station had not improved since the last monitoring visit in 2012 prompting Deputy Minister to recommend remedial action to be taken.

FSD is a Department of Planning Monitoring programme which aims to advance planning, accountability, responsibility and reporting through monitoring.
