Deputy Minister Buti Manamela attends inaugural Africa Region Commonwealth Youth Ministers meeting

Deputy Minister Buti Manamela will lead a delegation to the first Africa Region Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting

Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, youth development and administration, Buti Manamela will lead a delegation to the first Africa Region Commonwealth Youth Minister's Meeting (AR-CYMM).

This meeting comes against the in the backdrop of South Africa's policy formulation process. The draft National Youth Policy was released in January 2015 for comment and consultation. In this regard Deputy Minister Manamela will give a keynote address at Minister's meeting focusing on the significance of National Youth Policy formulation and professionalisation of youth work.

The meeting will take place in Yauonde, Cameroon under the theme "Young people building a safe and sustainable futureā€. The AR-CYMM will set an enabling framework for successful youth development to take place.

"We are going to Yauonde to share experiences with the other Commonwealth countries and to learn from them about best practices inspired by the African Youth Charter in proffesionalising youth work as well as enhancing the formulation of youth policies" said Deputy Minister Manamela.

Deputy Minister will be accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials, the National Youth Development Agency as well as the South African Youth Council.

Deputy Minister Manamela will return to South Africa on 11 February where he will join Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa in Khayelitsha to discuss the importance of reading with young people.
