South Africa was represented by Deputy Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo at the African Training and Research Centre in Administration for Development (CAFRAD) seventh Pan-African Forum on the Modernisation of Public Services and State Institutions held from 27 to 28 June 2011 in Rabat, Morocco.
The 2011 Forum was hosted under the theme: Fighting corruption and Reinforcing Good Governance to Reduce Poverty and Achieve Comprehensive and Sustainable Development in Africa.
CAFRAD is a Pan African intergovernmental organisation established in 1964 by African governments with the support of the United Nations, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), making it the first uniquely Pan-African training and research centre in Africa for the improvement of public administration and governance systems on the continent. CAFRAD membership is open to all African countries with a current membership of 37 states.
The Forum brought together African officials in charge of public services as well as governance and the fight against corruption, to examine the state of the implementation of national development programs and goals, the challenges to be overcome and the solutions to be suggested to ensure the actual achievement of these objectives.
The Forum had discussions on good governance of Public Services; the fight against corruption in the Public Sector; efficient of Public Services; Promoting Ethics, Integrity and Professionalism in the Public Sector; National Development Objectives; Reforms, innovations and reorganisations; and Inter-African co-operation.
As the forum concludes, participants are expected torecognise the need to become further involved and take active part in the reinforcement of good governance and the fight against corruption. Participants have strengthened their capacity and will to carry out good governance actions aiming at reinforcing governance and the fight against corruption in their respective countries.
The CAFRAD seventh Pan-African Forum on the Modernisation of Public Services and State Institutions has served as a platform to suggest actions to be implemented to improve public service efficiency with a view to achieving development objectives.
