The Department of Health and Social Development in Mpumalanga has learned with shock and great disappointment about the arrest of two ambulance attendants stationed at Leandra ambulance station.
According to the information from police these officials were arrested with stolen copper cables loaded in the ambulance apparently stolen from a local mine.
We have since discovered that these officials were on duty at the time of commission of crime and had left the station responding to a genuine call but never returned.
The MEC for Health and Social Development, Ms Dikeledi Mahlangu condemns this barbaric act with all contempt it deserves, and while this case maybe isolated, it has potential to undermine the confidence our people have in our ambulance service and more importantly image and respect of the service.
The MEC has instructed that swift action be taken immediately against these employees notwithstanding the concurrent police processes.
