The Department welcomes the court ruling

The Mpumalanga Department of Education welcomes the court ruling which interdicted and restrained Mr. Jan Hendrik Britz, the owner of Trichardtsfontein Farm in Secunda, Mpumalanga, from locking the gates and doors of Trichardtsfontein Combined School.

Mr. Jan Hendrik Britz was restrained on Friday, 15 August 2014 by the High Court (Gauteng Division, Pretoria) from denying the learners, teachers and officials access to Trichardtsfontein Combined School.

Mr. Britz closed the gates of the school for two weeks, alleging that the Department owed him money beside the fact that he was reluctant to enter into a contractual agreement with the Department.

“This has vindicated the Department, though it is regrettable that learners had to undergo the trouble of not being at schools for two weeks. The Department is however, encouraged that learners are back at school learning”

The Department will as a matter of urgency develop a catch up plan for learners to cover the lost time”
