The Department of Traditional Affairs wishes the Hindu faith community a happy 2013 Diwali celebration

On the 19th October 2013, the Hindu community will be celebrating Diwali, known as the “Festival of Light”.  Diwali is one of the most important festivals for the Hindu community and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together.

The Hindu faith community will tomorrow the 19th of October gather in celebration at the Gold Reef City from 09:30 till the evening engaged in various activities as they mark the day in aplomb and dance.

It is the mandate of the Department of Traditional Affairs (DTA) to promote and protect the rights of all religious communities in the country to practice their faiths and worship the Supreme Being without hindrance from the state or any other person.  South Africa is a democratic secular country with the rights of religion of choice protected by the constitution.

The DTA encourages the recognition and affirmation of marginalised faiths and their organisations, the unity of the people of South Africa across faith divide as part of the nation building programme and social cohesion. We remain encouraged by the continuing cooperation and interfaith collaboration in our country, manifesting through the National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA).

As the DTA we wish you and your loved ones a happy, prosperous Diwali.   May your day and the Diwali festivities be filled with joy and cheer, and may good health, prosperity and well-being come your way.

The DTA wishes the Hindu Community a blessed 2013 Diwali - A Happy, Wonder-Filled Diwali Festival of Light!!
