Gauteng MEC for Health, Ntombi Mekgwe sends her heartfelt condolences to the families of victims who were killed in the incident in which a bus tumbled into a stream along the R59 near Meyerton on Monday morning.
In this incident, a bus carrying 74 passengers crashed killing 19 people including the bus driver and leaving 55 people seriously injured.
“What happened on Monday is a tragedy and our sympathies and prayers are with families who lost their loved ones at this difficult moment,” said MEC Mekgwe.
Thirteen of the injured victims were taken to Sebokeng hospital, three patients are critical and in ICU and high care respectively and the other seven patients are in stable condition. One was discharged and the other two were transferred to other hospitals.
Two of the victims are in Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where one is currently admitted in ICU and the other one is in stable condition.
