The Department of Science and Technology welcomed the appointment of the new Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor, following the announcement by President Jacob Zuma at the Union Buildings on 25 May 2014.
The Director-General of Science and Technology, Dr Phil Mjwara, expressed appreciation for the contributions made by the outgoing Minister, Mr Derek Hanekom, and Deputy Minister Adv. Michael Masutha.
"Taking over from Minister Pandor in 2012, Mr Hanekom and (since 2013) Adv. Masutha have performed a sterling job in steering the Department, which is recognised for its excellence," said Dr Mjwara.
Welcoming the new minister, Dr Mjwara said the appointment was significant as it represented the nexus between continuity and change, and that the Department was looking forward to working with Minister Pandor again.
"Minister Pandor's passion will inspire all of us to shift into a higher gear in our efforts to realise the government's vision of a society that derives enduring and equitable benefits from science and technology," he explained.
