Department resolved learner transport issues in Campbell community

The Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison can confidently say that the issues that arose from Campbell community regarding learner transport have been resolved amicably. A visit made by the department’s officials comprising of manager for learner transport Mr Owen Wesi and the communication officers, found that the problem was due to a service provider who was no longer able to ferry the scholars from Campbell to Douglas.

The department was however not made aware of the situation on time but attended to it as soon as they realised the challenge. Today the situation was resolved as an alternative service provider was appointed and standby transportation arranged to address any such challenges.  The community was also briefed of the new arrangements during a community meeting with the departmental officials.

A total of five minibuses have been secured for the area and service providers vowed during the community meeting to provide excellent service as expected by the department and community. Three other minibuses have been secured from a service provider to be on standby should any challenges arise.

The department acknowledges there has been challenges regarding learner transportation and is determined to address all challenges to ensure learners are safely transported to schools. Also to note is that the unit of learner transport is a new responsibility for the Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison as it was previously under the Department of Education.

The department is committed to an open door policy so that any challenges facing learner transportation can be addressed as the needs arise. As a means to also familiarise with some of the challenges relating to learner transportation, the department has begun ground work to find amicable solutions to some of the existing challenges.

As a department, we are determined to ensure normality for learner transportation and want to avoid any such challenges in future.

Through the cooperation of the community and service provider working with departmental officials it’s all systems go for learners and learners are expected to be in their places of learning tomorrow.
