Department release more money to suppliers

The Gauteng Department of Health is releasing R250 million this week to pay service providers and suppliers of goods and services rendered to health facilities.

All the money is expected to be in the bank accounts of suppliers by Friday (June 8). The payment will go towards paying debts incurred in the last financial year as well as to suppliers who provided services in the last month as the department now tries to honour payments within 30 days.

The department has paid R2.8 billion so far to suppliers who were owed money for services rendered in the previous years. The department remains committed to the undertaking it has made to clear all its past accruals by the end of June this year.

Payments that the department has processed and paid in the past couple of months have assisted in improving services in provincial health facilities.

The availability of medicines has improved significantly as a result of payments made. The department is now involved in efforts aimed at improving medicine stock holding from six weeks to six months for fast moving drugs. Slow moving and non-essential drugs will continue to be held at six weeks stock levels.

The department would like to re-assure suppliers and services providers that it is committed to meet all its past and future obligations.
