The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development has received a report from a team of experts dispatched to the hospital to investigate the death of five babies at Jubilee Hospital last month.
A clinical report from the team comprising of practising experts in child health including paediatricians, gynaecologists, nurses and obstetricians revealed the cause of death in most cases as prematurity while one was pneumonia in an HIV and TB exposed patient.
The babies were high risk cases with a birth weight less than 800g and one baby had hyaline membrane disease which causes breathing problems.
In an effort to improve quality healthcare, the hospital has since received five new incubators and other Neonatal equipment’s.
To ensure that the hospital has hot water, the department of Infrastructure Development has appointed a service provider to repair the boilers which are faulty.
