Gauteng MEC for Health, Ntombi Mekgwe urges Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) who were awaiting payments from the department to confirm if the funds reflect on their bank accounts.
This follows the release of R63 million by the department to 818 NGOs on Thursday, 10 May 2012, in an effort to reduce accruals.
In the past two weeks, the department has made significant progress in settling outstanding payments to all service providers.
Recently, a sum of R874 million was paid to suppliers contracted to the medical depot who provide the department with medical and surgical items
Non-governmental organisations are our important partners in service delivery and we are committed to ensuring that they do not experience obstacles in their endeavours to assist in the care for the vulnerable members of our society.
The success of this payment underlines the seriousness with which the department regards the commitment it has made to honour all its obligations.
We would like to reiterate that the department is fully aware and committed to meeting all its past and future obligations to suppliers.
NGOs whose payments are not reflecting can call the department’s contact centre on 011 355 2222/7633/7650/7636 or 7633.
