Department moves to supply antiretroviral drugs to clinics

The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development in Gauteng has moved to ensure that none of its clinics run out of antiretroviral drug efavirenz, also as known stockrin.

The Department’s Medical Supplies Depot has today started transporting supplies to Hillbrow Community Health Centre from where clinics experiencing low stock levels will be able to collect. The situation will be monitored daily and clinics experiencing low stock levels will be restocked throughout the week.

The department is not aware of any manufacturing problems being allegedly experienced by any pharmaceutical company and rejects claims that Aspen has been restricting supplies because they are owed money.

The department would like to state categorically that it has a payment plan in place for all suppliers. Payments have been made to all suppliers. A total amount of R270 million was paid to medical suppliers in the past two weeks.
