The Department of Labour’s (DoL) Public Employment Services (PES) branch using its electronic matching initiative the Employment Services System for SA (ESSA) has managed to place 16 171 work seekers in direct employment opportunities.
Presenting before the Portfolio Committee on Labour of its annual report for 2012/13 in Parliament today, 10 October the department also announced that it had in the annual period ending 31 March 2013 managed to refer 396 172 work seekers to other services such as counselling and career guidance.
In the period under review the Department of Labour also managed to register 2 620 employers to advertise their employment opportunities using the ESSA electronic platform against an annual target of 1 000. The department has also registered 600 259 of work seekers in the Employment Services System for SA against a set target of 450 000.
