The Department of Labour (DoL) is inviting graduates and holders of diplomas in various study fields to apply for a number of internship opportunities in the department.
Department of Labour technical support manager to the internship programme Maxwell Xonti said the programme was a response to the clarion call by the department towards job creation and development of skills in South Africa.
In terms of the initiative selected candidates would be based at the Department of Labour’s head office in Pretoria, said Xonti. He said the programme was a one-year initiative and would provide selected candidates with on-job training at various directorates of the department.
Xonti said a total of 71 successful candidates would be placed in the programme and would be provided with a monthly stipend during the duration of the programme.
The directorate of income reporting requires (20) applicants who have a national diploma in commerce or financial management; directorate of monitoring and evaluation require (1) applicant with a business administration, national diploma in public administration, secretaries; the medical directorate require (20) candidates with qualifications in accountancy/business skills human sciences, administration; risk directorate require (5) applicants with qualifications in diploma in risk management; communication directorate require (2) applicants with BA/Diploma in Communication, Marketing, Journalism, public relations; call Centre require (5) applicants with diploma in call centre/customer enquiry or public service; compensation directorate will accept (13) applicants with national diploma in public relations or BA in human sciences (Public business management, project management and office management and; the information technology (IT) require (5) applicants with A+, N+ and MCSE).
Xonti said interviews with prospective candidates would be conducted during the month of September and the plan was to begin with the internship programme late October or early November.
“Although we do not guarantee jobs after the programme. I am optimistic that candidates who display eagerness to learn would place themselves in good standing for possible permanent placement after the programme especially in areas of need,” he said.
Xonti said even if applicants were not successful in the programme he encouraged them to submit their CVs to the nearest Labour Centre to be captured on Public Employment Services Database, a Department of Labour initiative that seeks to place job seekers with prospective employers.
