Department to issue festive season special permits

The Department's Directorate: Registration and Operating Licensing is inviting applications from operators of minibus taxis, scheduled buses, coaches and charter services for festive season permits catering for long distance routes.

Applications can be submitted as from 16 to 30 November 2009. These special permits will be valid until 1 February 2010. The issuing of these festive permits is part of a plan to alleviate transport shortages experienced by commuters during this period of the year. This is due to the large volume of commuters putting pressure on existing operations.

Interested parties wishing to apply are required to submit the following:
* application fee of R200
* a copy of a permit or operating license to be temporarily changed into a festive operating license
* a letter from the association or bus company of route you will be operating on
* detailed routes permitted by association
* documents of a compliant vehicle
* a vehicle testing report
* copy of passenger liability insurance.
