The Gauteng Department of Health has cut the number of companies it owes money for more than 30 days from 691 in April to just 70 in June as a result of a focused attention given to the payment of suppliers and service providers.
The percentage of companies paid within 30 days also improved from 5 % in April to 80% in June. The amount of money owed to companies not paid in 30 days has also been reduced drastically from R1.4 billion in April to R51 million in June.
Improvements have also been noticed in the number of companies owed money for more than 90 days and more than 180 days. Companies owed for more than 180 days have been reduced from 305 to 65.
The department remains committed to clearing all its debts by the end of June. A total of R3.9 billion had been paid by the end of last week. More than R3.4 billion of the amount was for goods and service purchased in 2011 and previous years while R500 million was for goods and services procured since the beginning of the financial year in April.
