Department of Home Affairs welcomes volumes of Zimbabweans applying to be documented

The Department of Home Affairs welcomes the large volumes of Zimbabwean nationals applying at various offices around the country to be documented ahead of the deadline of 31 December 2010 as announced by Cabinet in September this year. It has always been our conviction that the majority of Zimbabwean nationals in the country wish to comply with our immigration regulations so that they can lead normal lives without the constant fear of deportation, says Director-General Mkuseli Apleni.

“The department expects that in the two days before the deadline, increasing numbers of Zimbabwean nationals will present themselves at the various Home Affairs offices across the country to apply for various permits that will help regularise their stay in South Africa,” continued the Director-General.

“Our officials at all offices are at hand to ensure that all Zimbabweans are assisted. We have also implemented a two-shift system at the processing centre in Pretoria with additional staff.”

“In this regard, we thank the various organisations representing Zimbabweans living in South Africa for their genuine efforts in mobilising thousands of their compatriots to apply for various permits that will help in regularising their stay in the country.”

“Even at this late hour, we reiterate our appeal to all Zimbabwean nationals who have not applied for their regularisation or those with fraudulently acquired South African documents to apply or submit such documents now and not wait for the deadline,” concluded Director-General Mkuseli Apleni.
