Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has confirmed that final preparations are being made for the deportation of a German national, Ingo Ecks, who has been resident in South Africa illegally.
Mr Ecks has been illegally resident in South Africa for over five years, engaging in various business activities without the relevant permits.
Minister Dlamini Zuma, responding to a written parliamentary question from the Democratic Alliance confirmed that the investigation into the “allegations levelled against Mr Ecks has been concluded.”
Explaining further Minister Dlamini Zuma said, “When we received allegations of irregularities regarding the residence of German national Ingo Ecks in South Africa, the Counter Corruption and Security unit in the department was instructed to investigate the matter. This is in line with our commitment to ensuring that fraud and corruption ceases to be a feature in the department.”
“Investigations into the matter confirmed that Ecks was indeed residing illegally in South Africa, being in possession of invalid permits. He is also alleged to have been involved in other illegal activities.”
“The Immigration Services Inspectorate Unit is finalising preparations for his arrest and deportation to his home country,” concluded Minister Dlamini Zuma.
Further investigations are being conducted into the activities of those Home Affairs officials who might have colluded with him to acquire fraudulent documents with a view to taking disciplinary action.
