The Department of Home Affairs today Sunday, 3 July 2011 appealed to Zimbabwean nationals who submitted applications for work, business and study permits, to respond to sms messages requesting the submission of outstanding documents required to finalise their applications.
In pursuance of this objective, the department will on Monday, 4 July 2011 hold discussions with members of the Zimbabwean Stakeholder Forum to brief them on the status of the documentation project as well as to seek their support to mobilise Zimbabwean nationals to respond to the requests for outstanding documents.
Since the closure of the Zimbabwe Documentation Project (ZDP) on 31 December 2010, 275 762 applications for work, study and business permits were received.
To date, a total of 263 141 applications have adjudicated while a further 12 621 applications remain to be adjudicated.
Of the 263 141 adjudicated applications, 142 431 permits remain to be dispatched. Although these applications have been pre-adjudicated, the permits cannot be issued due to amongst others, absence of a valid Zimbabwean passport.
SMS text messages are being sent to these 142 431 applicants requesting that they submit the outstanding documents to Home Affairs offices to enable the expeditious finalisation of these applications.
The documentation of Zimbabwean nationals was announced by Cabinet in September 2011 and has been implemented in consultation with the Zimbabwean government who agreed to provide their nationals with the necessary travel documents to enable their successful documentation.
