The department gets a clean bill of financial health

The Mpumalanga Department of Education appreciates the unqualified audit opinion it received for two years in succession from the Auditor-General.

The report from the Auditor-General states that the financial statements and other regulatory requirements of the Mpumalanga Department of Education for the year that ended on 31 March 2012 were found to be sound, efficiently and effectively managed during the year under review.

In his report to the department the Auditor-General said: "in my opinion, the financial statements presented fairly, in all material respect, the financial position of the Department of Education as at 31 March 2012 and its financial performance and cash flows for the year ended in accordance with the department financial Reporting framework presented by the National Treasury and the requirements of the PFMA and DoRA"

The MEC for Education, Mrs Reginah Mhaule welcomed with appreciation this outcome and further expressed her profound pleasure to all who contributed directly or indirectly to these results.

“These are indeed good news for the province and its people, it confirms our ability to efficiently and effectively manage state resources, we will continue to work harder with all our stakeholders to sustain this outcome.

Of significance is that this happens for two years in succession and it is indeed adding on the long list of outstanding achievements of this department, one of which being declared the most improved province in the country following the 2011 Grade 12 results. 

We are not going to be complacent but will continue to work around the clock to improve all our obligations going forward. Our target of clean audit by 2014 is within reach.

"Let me once more take this opportunity to appreciate the hard work of all departmental officials and stakeholders who made this outcome possible," said MEC Mhaule. The department view this outcome as a confidence booster and commits to do everything in its ability to ensure that resources at its disposal are used in the best interest of the public good. At the same time, the department expresses its appreciation to the audit team.
