The Fisheries Management branch of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) hereby extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Kevin Jacobs, a member of the Military Veterans Marine Anti-Poaching Project who tragically died in a car accident during a coastal patrol on 3 December 2011.
The accident happened on the Franskraal gravel road in the Gansbaai area after the patrol team spotted a suspicious looking vehicle with a rubber duck in tow. The Western Cape Marine Anti-Poaching Project (WCMAPP) was initiated in 2009 as part of the Departments’ anti-poaching strategy. Through this project a total of 60 military veterans have been recruited and deployed to the Overberg area (the area from Rooi-Els to Aniston with a coastline of approximately 140 kilometres), one of the most heavily poached areas along our coastline. Since the deployment of the veterans numerous successes have been recorded.
Kevin Jacobs leaves his wife and three children.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, 9 December 2011 at Manuel Security Offices, Lower Main Road, Salt River at 12:00.
The funeral is on Saturday, 10 December 2011 in Hout Bay, Cape Town. The funeral proceedings will start at 07:30 from the home and proceed to the Hout Bay Community Hall.
