The Director-General (DG) of the Department of Energy, Ms Nelisiwe Magubane, welcomes the appointment of Mr David E Constable as the Chief Executive Officer of Sasol Limited as from the 1st July 2011. Having served in different executive positions within Flour Corporation for many years, Mr Constable brings along a vast international experience. His expertise will certainly complement the management capital that resides within SASOL.
“As South Africa seeks to put industrialisation on a different trajectory, we believe that SASOL could, under his leadership reap spin-offs a local engineering giant in the mould of Fluor where he previously was,” Ms Magubane said.
“We trust that he will truly partner with us in the journey towards ensuring real and meaningful transformation as well as growth in the liquid fuel sector, which will address job creation and social justice.”
I have been previously assured and remain confident that the domicile of SASOL will forever be in South Africa and that Africa will, during his tenure, feature prominently in SASOL’s future expansion and investment plans, the DG added.
Mr Constable will be very much aware that South Africa has a unique transformation imperative and coming from an environment that is familiar with racial and cultural diversity himself, he will bring with innovative ways of ensuring that SASOL becomes a model of how a broadly representative and responsible corporate citizen should be in South Africa, said Ms Magubane in conclusion.
