Department of Economic Development (DED) does its bit for Mandela

The DED yesterday played its part in celebrations honouring former President, Nelson Mandela, in the month of July.

Mr Mandela will celebrate his birthday on 18 July, and this day has been set aside as Mandela Day internationally.

As part of celebrating Mandela’s birthday, his Foundation made a call early this year to make every Monday a Mandela Monday in the month of July. People are urged everywhere to spend five minutes of their time to make a contribution that will change someone’s life.

Mr Mandela provided 67 years of service to the people of this country.

Through its staff and agencies, the DED made its contribution by visiting Tokologo Paraplegic Self-Help centre which accommodates seven paraplegics in Protea Glen, Soweto and Khayalethu dropping off centre in Kliptown for children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

The staff helped with cleaning and other tasks at the two organisations.
