Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs warns communities about possible floods

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga would like to warn all communities in the province to be on full alert for possible floods that might be caused by continuing rains.

The weather bureau predicts that the rains will continue to fall until Sunday where it is expected to clear partially. The cold weather is also expected to take its toll due to the rains.

The department urges communities in low lying are and next to flood lines to consider moving away before the level of water rises. Communities are urged to avoid crossing rivers and driving over flowing bridges. The department has also mobilised disaster management units in all municipalities to be on high alert due to the unfavourable weather conditions.

Motorists are also urged to be extremely cautious as the roads are wet and there has been rock falls in some areas. Communities are urges to report any possible flooding by phoning the toll Free number: 0800 202 507
