Department confirms the arrest of a top Supply Chain Management official

The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development wishes to disappointingly confirm the arrest of its top Supply Chain Management official on allegations of corruption. The official was arrested by the police yesterday (Tuesday, 29 March) in Mahikeng.

MEC Boitumelo Tshwene says his department will support and corporate with the investigation process against this official, saying "to ensure that government wins the war against maladministration in public service, acts of corruption must be rooted out".

Meanwhile, the department declares as untrue, rumours that have been doing the rounds about MEC Boitumelo Tshwene’s alleged involvement in a car accident. It is however true that the car allocated to the MEC was involved in an accident over the past weekend, but the MEC was not in the car at time of the incident. The accident involved members of the VIP Protection Unit who were subsequently admitted to Wilmedpark hospital in Klerksdorp. Their condition is reported to be serious but stable.
