The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development is to step up security at Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital to protect staff members.
This follows reports of threats against certain hospital employees who were involved in anti-corruption initiatives.
MEC Qedani Mahlangu has appealed to unions in the hospital to assist in supporting management in efforts to root out corruption and improving the quality of care.
“The department is aware of allegations of bribery and misconduct at this hospital appeals to anyone who has first hand information of illegal activities to report these to the police.
“I would particularly like the National Health and Allied Workers Union to cooperate with us in normalising the situation in the hospital,” the MEC said.
The department has reported allegations of corruption in this hospital to the police and an investigation has been initiated.
