Mafikeng: For the second year in succession, the North West Department of Agriculture, Conservation, Environment and Rural Development has obtained the Auditor-General’s unqualified report for the 2009/10 financial year. The Head of Department, Mr Mosweu Mogotlhe attributes to staff members’ positive attitude towards clean service and good governance.
To celebrate this progressive achievement, the department held a fun filled day on Friday, 15 October, where staff from all the districts in the province participated in different sporting activities at the Uniwest Sports Complex.
In addressing the departmental staff on the purpose of this day, Head of Department Mogotlhe thanked officials for their evident observance of financial regulations.
“We have successfully moved from an adverse opinion as at March 2006, to a qualification expression in 2007/08, and unqualified report for both 2008/09 and 2009/10 financial years. This consistency proves that we are very close to getting a clean report; what we need to do is to thoroughly work on resolving all non-compliance findings. We have already embarked on a clean audit campaign for 2010/11, and for us to achieve this goal, we all need to be in a healthy bodily state,” expressed Head of Department Mogotlhe.
Mogotlhe encouraged staff to continue playing by the rule that governs public finances and become reliable champions of good governance.
He said the department deems this wellness programme instrumental since it does not only serve as one way of promoting a holistic healthy lifestyle, but is also viewed as a proper atmosphere where colleagues can for a day, put on ice their daily responsibilities and strive to know each other, in particular at social and personal levels.
The day was packed with sports activities which included the hour long aerobics session, soccer, netball, volleyball, athletics and indigenous games such as morabaraba, mmela.
In demonstrating support to the national HIV Counselling and Testing campaign (HCT), Mogotlhe who encouraged staff members to test and know their HIV status, led a team of departmental management and tested. Staff was also afforded an opportunity to do health screenings which included tests for blood sugar level, blood pressure, hypertension and weight.
The day reached its peak by awarding the champions of the day.
