The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has forged a telling relationship with the community radio stations across the four districts of the province, as an effort to better disseminate the department’s information that is of significance to farmers and the community at large.
Confirming the partnership, the MEC for the department, Mr Boitumelo Tshwene states that this is a continuation of the department’s arrangement with the community radio stations which started last year, and is now commencing from August this year until March next year.
“We are engaging the services of the community radio stations primarily because they offer a variety of services and promote local content that is of interest to a particular community in which our farmers reside,” explains MEC Tshwene.
MEC Tshwene continues that since the community radio stations are a crucial part of the country’s and in particular the North West broadcast terrain, they will enable the department to reach out to subsistence farmers and continue to disseminate information about pertinent issues that concern farmers and other stakeholders.
The radio programmes will cover a variety of agricultural and rural development topics that include but not restricted to vegetable growing, crops, animal production, land-care, veterinary services, trade and marketing, and other important information that might be of benefit to farmers.
“We therefore urge our subsistence farmers and communities in all districts of our province to make use of this information dissemination platform and ensure that through what they will be informed of, their agricultural practices improve”, encouraged MEC Tshwene.
These 30 minutes structured radio slots will be aired on the second and last Wednesdays (Mafikeng FM and Radio Mafisa) and Thursdays (Vaaltar FM and Star FM) of the month, and will be broadcast from 14h00 and 14h30 respectively.
