The Office of Premier of the North West has dismissed Democratic Alliance (DA) provincial leader Chris Hattingh’s attack on Premier Thandi Modise as unwarranted and usual theatrics by Hattingh to draw attention to himself.
Only a desperate but shallow politician would target Premier Modise for a meeting that was convened by the Acting Provincial Secretary of the ruling party and not the Premier. For the record, the Premier was not the convenor of the African National Congress (ANC) provincial Lekgotla and any insinuation that she was is not only mischievous but a deliberate attempt by Hattingh to pre-empt and undermine the outcome of the Lekgotla.
It’s unfortunate that he chose to use the Office of the Public Protector to validate his spurious claims. Heads of Department who had been attending the Lekgotla had taken leave from their official duties in order to contribute towards and internalise resolutions to be taken in the interest of communities and receive mandate from the party that has deployed them in government.
This is the practice across all provinces, country and the world over. State resources were not used to fund or accommodate participants and any suggestion that they had neglected their duties whilst shaping the developmental agenda of the province is ludicrous.
