Day four: National Senior Certificate examinations stress some but leave all with smiles

Day four of the National Senior Certificate Examinations continued the flawless start as learners took their seats to write their English Literature paper which was as smooth as the words of William Shakespeare himself.

According to reports from the provinces the only disruptions were in Gauteng where some learners from eight High Schools in the East Rand were slightly affected by Train delays. Learners however were not compromised as a result as they were afforded the necessary time to conclude their examinations. High schools Affected by Train Delay: Birchleich High School, Norkem Park High School, Rhodesfield High School, Panorama High School, Zizwe High School in Elandfontein, Kempton Park High School, Germiston South High School and Status institute School

With 464,997 full time candidates registered for the English First Additional Language, while 111,432 had registered for the English Home Language and a modest 9 for the English Second Additional Language paper, learners put their literature skills to the test. The tip by the DBE to adequately prepare and thoroughly acquaint themselves with the prescribed works was heeded with one learner tweeting ‘’@DBE_SA the poems that showed up are the ones I only studied last night!!’’ and a further @DBE_SA Lovely!! Hoped for the best and got it :)’’

While many may fear the dreaded Mathematics paper, the sentiments amongst learners paint a different and pleasing picture.” @DBE_SA bring on that maths paper!!!’’ tweeted one learner as the excitement of acing yet another paper filled social networks.

Tomorrow, Friday 1 November a total of 330,789 Fulltime candidates and 27,382 Part Time candidates registered to write the Mathematical Literacy examination while Mathematics has seen 245,663 full time learners register and a further 66,888 part-time candidates.

Tip for the day: Take time to read the entire paper first, try as much as possible to leave time for yourself at the end, to allow you to go back over your answers, to check, correct and complete them.

With the first week drawing to a close tomorrow the department wishes the class of 2013 all the best with their Mathematics Examinations.
