David Sekgobela (27), a suspect in a murder and rape of a 2-year-old Maria Mmanageng has died in hospital.
Sekgobela was detained at Tzaneen police cells when he started complaining of breathing problems. He was rushed to hospital where he was treated but later died of pneumonia.
Sekgobela was arrested earlier this year for allegedly raping Maria Mmanageng of Pulaneng village in Maake village. The 2-year-old girl later died of natural causes.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been informed for further investigations.
