The 2011 Golden Games, part of Sport and Recreation South Africa’s (SRSA's) Older Persons Programme, will be held in Free State on 19 to 20 October 2011.
The decision was taken at a workshop held by SRSA's Directorate Community Sport in Johannesburg.
The Golden Games is a national event where persons older than 65 compete in various sporting codes on a provincial basis. Codes that form part of the Golden Games include athletics, duck walk, jukskei, and dress-up.
The Games has become increasingly popular with more than 1 000 participants competing in the 2010 edition that was held in Richards Bay.
Western Cape province won both the 2009 and 2010 Games.
"We are looking forward to an even better and expanded Golden Games this year," says programme director Kanyane Mohlala.
'We are privileged to run this project in collaboration with the departments of Social Development and Health, who've contributed to the project both nationally and provincially.'
A project team was formed at the workshop to work on the Games strategy, and a Local Organising Committee (LOC) will be meeting with SRSA shortly to commence organising of the event.
