CRL Rights Commission wishes the South African Rastafari community a blessed 120th anniversary celebration earth day to Emperor Haile I Selassie I of Ethiopia on the 23rd of July 1892 - 2012

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities will be joining the rest of the Rastafari communities all over South Africa, African continent and worldwide on Monday, the 23rd of July 2012 to celebrate and observe the day on which religious Emperor I, Haile Selassie I who was born Tafari Makonnen on 23 July 1892.

The CRL Rights Commission has recognised various Rastafari community councils between 2010 and 2012 and would urge all South African cultural, religious and language communities to live side by side with the Rastafari communities in attaining unity in diversity, peace, tolerance, mutual respect, social cohesion and nation building.

The CRL Rights Commission is currently conducting national consultative public hearings on Public Holiday’s Act 36 of 1994 and this day of 23 July and other significant days such as Africa Liberation Day (25 May 1963) were highlighted by the Rastafarian communities as significant cultural and religious holydays in their daily practices.

The CRL Rights Commission is at the advanced phase to release and submit its 2011/12 research report with the rites of passage of the Rastafari communities and hard-hitting recommendations to various organs of the state including the media in addressing issues affecting the Rastafari communities since 1994.
