CRL Rights Commission wishes the South African, Rastafari Community a blessed Coronation Day celebration

The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities will be joining the rest of the Rastafari communities all over the world and the African Continent on 2 November Wednesday, 2011 to celebrate the most important cultural and spiritual event of the Rastafari communities.

This is an 81st Anniversary of the Coronation of Emperor Haile Selassie I and Empress Menen I on 2 November 1930 in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. In the world today hundreds of thousands of people celebrate Rastafari day as part of their cultural and religious practice.

The Commission has recognised the various provincial and national Rastafari community councils between 2010 and 2011 and would urge the South African Communities to respect and live side by side with the Rastafari communities in attaining unity in diversity, peace, tolerance, mutual respect and nation building.

The Commission is currently conducting a research project on challenges and policy issues affecting the Rastafarian Communities in South Africa and it is expected to release its findings in 2012.

The Commission urges South Africans and other nations around the world to celebrate a Blessed Coronation Day with respect on others’ cultural and religious practices.
