CRL Rights Commission wishes the Muslim religious communities a healthy Ramadan Holy Month in South Africa

On Friday, 20 July until 18 August 2012, the Muslim Religious communities in South Africa will observe the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan. The CRL Rights Commission wishes the Muslim cultural and religious communities a wellbeing over this fasting period.

During the time of Ramadan as a holy month, Muslim Religious Communities all over the world abstain from food, drinks, and other physical needs during the daylight hours. It is also a time when the Muslim communities reach out to the poor and lend them a helping hand in order to fulfil the International Mandela Month.

South African Muslims religious communities are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives and contribution in light of Islamic guidance within the diverse religious communities in the world affairs.

These are lessons all South African cultural and religious Communities can learn from and follow; it is in recognising our unity in diversity, social cohesion and nation building that our strength as a country rest and solely exist.

The Ramadan holy month takes place during the time when the CRL Rights Commission is holding public hearings on possible review of the Public Holiday Act of 1994. It is therefore important that government and institutions of higher learning must be encouraged to promote tolerance, unity and peace among all religious communities.
