CRL Rights Commission congratulates the people of the new South Sudan for their independence day scheduled for 9 July 2011 and strengthen the efforts of the government of South Africa

On the eve of the historic freedom day in the African Continent, the CRL Rights Commission will join the rest of the African continent in celebrating the independence of the Southern Sudan on 9 July 2011 and welcomes it as the 54th member state of the African Union. 

The Commission would like on behalf of its cultural, religious and language communities of South Africa extend a congratulatory message of support, hope, unity, tolerance and ubuntu to the people of the new Republic of South Sudan.

The Commission has noted with pride the role of South Africa that it has contributed significantly to the Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development (PCRD) programme through a number of capacity and institution building projects, training of civil servants and diplomats in the South Sudan since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 under international community's watchful eye.

The Commission would continue to support and pledge its support on measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, tolerant, humanity, security free and stable envjronment in South Sudan and would advise that the cultural, religious and language rights of the people of South Sudan be promoted and protect by International Human Rights law and our own African Charter on Human and People' Rights as it is marking 30th years of its Adoption this year in 2011.
