Cricket dispute settled

Today, 12 August 2009, saw the end of a week long mediation process between the Cricket South Africa (CSA) and the Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) dispute. Mediators Brian Currin and Khabo Mamba presented a four page settlement agreement to the Minister of Sport and Recreation Rev Makhenkesi Stofile who was pleased with the resolution between both parties. "Cricket is bigger than both parties. It is an asset of the people of South Africa," said the Minister in his opening statement to the media briefing at the Wanderers Club.

Referring to the agreement on behalf of the mediators Brian Currin congratulated both parties for participating in good faith. "It was essential that both parties participate in a trust building relationship," said Currin. The Presidents of CSA as well as the GCB expressed their gratitude to Minister Stofile's intervention, as well as the mediators' role during the process of mediation, before they jointly signed the agreement.

Part of the agreement included reinstating all the England games for the fourth coming tour in November, December and January to the Wanderers stadium, as well as the review of the GCB constitution.
