Court proceedings back to normal after the unfortunate shooting

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development is disturbed by the recent shooting that occurred during a court session at the Pretoria Magistrate Court.

The two accused, Lucky Segapo and Mahlabaleng Mahlata who appeared in court on nine counts of armed robbery and illegal possession of fire arms, fired shots and injured two court orderlies. The injured court orderlies are being treated at the nearby hospital and the department wishes them speedy recovery.

No other court officials were injured during this unfortunate incident but all of the officials who were in court during the shooting received trauma counseling and were released to go home.

The law enforcement agencies are investigating circumstances that led to the accused being in possession of fire arms and are still in pursuit of the accused that are still at large.

The court proceedings are back to normal except for Court F which is treated as a crime scene.

The court management is doing everything in its power to ensure that security at the court is tightened and we will not be deterred in dispensing the justice to the people of South Africa.
