Correctional Services Minister, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, MP, yesterday informed the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services in Parliament of Cabinet's decision to confirm Mr Tom Moyane's appointment as the Department of Correctional Services' new National Commissioner (Director-General).
The announcement follows a process of inviting candidates to apply to fill this position in the department, which has been vacant since February 2010.
Minister Mapisa-Nqakula further announced Mr Moyane, who is currently Chief Executive Officer of Government Printing Works, will assume office on 15 May 2010.
Mr Moyane, who has a long history of service in both the public and private sectors, brings with him a wealth of managerial skills at the highest level to the department.
National Commissioner Moyane will make a statement once he has assumed office in a fortnight.
