Construction company smacked with a prohibition notice

The Gauteng Department of Labour has slapped Golden walk mall management with a prohibition notice after a 170 ton mobile crane fell with its boom on a Woolworths store, at Golden Walk mall in Germiston yesterday. Labour inspectors are currently at the scene of the accident to investigate the cause of accident and whether occupational health and safety standards were complied with at the time of the accident, and have taken control of the site.

Twenty three (23) Woolworths employees have sustained minor injuries and two have serious injuries.

The prohibition notice prevents further construction until a formal probe by the Department has been finalised and completed.
