On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, we wish to congratulate our President, Jacob Zuma for being awarded the Freedom of the City of Maputo yesterday, Tuesday 13 December 2011.
The President is on a two-day State Visit to Mozambique to further strengthen existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas including trade and investment, energy, mining, agriculture, communications, water, environmental affairs, arts and culture as well as science and technology.
The award of the Freedom of the City of Maputo is of particular personal significance for the President as he was one of the many South African exiles hosted by Mozambique during the struggle against apartheid.
The gesture will further strengthen the existing relations not only between South Africa and Mozambique, but also encourage improved relations with other countries on the entire Continent.
