141 roadworthy recap complaint local taxis to render services for transportation of fans from park and ride facilities during FIFA Confederation Cup matches to be played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium as from Sunday. This is in line with empowerment of local service providers as per Memorandum of Agreement signed by North West Host City of Rustenburg with key transport and taxi industry players earlier this week.
In terms of the agreement, a transport coordinating committee comprising six members, two from each of the signatories, i.e. Rustenburg Local Municipality, Greater Rustenburg Transport Co-operative and the National Taxi Alliance (local) has been constituted to oversee transport operations from Rietvlei N4, Western bypass, Boshoek / Phokeng, Impala-Bobuanja Park and Ride facilities. The park and walk facility is reserved for VIP’s and only accredited vehicles will be permitted to access it.
Meanwhile, North West MEC for Public Safety Howard Yawa has made an appeal to motorists to utilise Park and Ride facilities and not attempt to drive to the stadium as the Phokeng-Sun City road from Uncle Tom intersection passing the stadium up to Phokeng Post Office has been declared a traffic free zone. Only pedestrians, VIP’s, VVIP’s and players will be allowed to use this part of the road.
“Although strict security will be maintained at park and ride venues, police will not be held liable for negligent officials and fans who leave valuables such as handbags, wallets, laptops, video cameras and cameras inside their cars where they can be seen by people passing. We advise that such items should be not be brought along to match venues alternatively they should be locked boot at all time. Vehicles parked illegally and wrongfully outside park and ride venues will be towed at owner’s expense to the Rustenburg Municipal pound by accredited private towing vehicles.”
