Condolences on passing of Mr Jabu Khumalo

Mr Dan Kgothule, the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, will like to extend his condolences to the family and club of the late Mr Jabu Kumalo, owner of African Warriors soccer club. “It is always a great shock when someone that has made such huge impressions on other people and more specifically the world of sport that we all love, enjoy and live for, passes away.

It is with the utmost sadness that I was informed of the untimely death of Mr Jabu Khumalo,” said Mr Kgothule.

The work that Mr Khumalo has done in South African soccer cannot be surpassed and his long time commitment to football development is but some of the attributes that will make his legacy live on as long as we play, support and develop the beautiful game.

How does one describe the loss of someone that will leave a gap in the sport, as his life literally revolved around soccer, and his day to day activities was geared 100% towards the building of the sport in our province?

Although his death is a shock to us all, a special word of sympathy must go out to his family and his club, African Warriors. The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has committed itself to the support of the club, to create a situation where the teams in the Free State have access to top-of-the-line facilities such as the Free State Sport Science Institute as well as District High Performance Centers to support the team in its campaigns in future, and help guide the club to higher honours.

We are humbled by what Mr Khumalo has done for the sport in the Free State and the country, and feel honoured to be involved with such a group of dedicated athletes, and this is why we took the decision to assist the club with training facilities, equipment and attire. “I am very happy that Mr Khumalo lived to see his desire for a full professional support to his team which it deserves," Mr Kgothule stated.

Mr Kgothule will like to take this opportunity to convey his sincere sympathy to the Khumalo family, friends and relatives in this time of sorrow and also to the club African Warriors, that now has the responsibility to make his legacy live on through what they do on the field.

May his soul rest in peace.
