Condolence message on shooting of Constable Bengeza

President Jacob Zuma today extended his condolences to the family of Constable Fihliwe Mavis Bengeza, who was shot dead in the line of duty while investigating an ATM bombing at Zonkizizwe taxi rank on the East Rand. Constable Sihle Mbatha who was with her was wounded.

“That our police officers are killed in the line of duty is tragic and unacceptable. Thousands of hard working police officers place their lives on the line every day.

With every call there lurks the possibility of death and danger. The gangs who are behind ATM bombings are usually armed with high calibre firearms.

Despite this, most policemen and women respond in a professional manner and within the ambit of the law. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of this brave police official. She laid down her life to ensure a crime free society, and we salute her for that’’, said President Zuma.

We wish Constable Mbatha who was injured during the attack a speedy recovery.
