It has come to the attention of the Department of Defence that individuals in the Western Cape area and possibly spreading to other provinces are defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of their hard earned money.
Various individuals, whose names are known to the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the SA Legion, are fraudulently handing out forms to former South African Defence Force (SADF) members to apply for pensions where they are then charged R80.00 fee for “administration” and are promised payouts within 90 days. The SANDF would never approach any former member through “agents” or “individuals” on the streets.
Members of this syndicate also ask for a R250.00 fee for an application form to former SA Cape Coloured Corps members to apply for pensions. The DOD encourages members of the public to approach the SANDF to enquire about any outstanding matters that they might have with the SANDF and not rely on the word-of-mouth and “unconfirmed announcements” on the street.
Furthermore, the public is advised not to heed any of these fraudulent “unconfirmed announcements” by these unscrupulous individuals set on defrauding the public of their hard earned money.
Members of the public, who might have any information on these individuals operating in the Greater Cape Town and other areas, are advised and requested to report them and their activities to the nearest offices of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and or at the nearest SANDF Unit or Base.
