Complaints against public servants ink NW Premier Thandi Modise

Public servants should serve the public with humility and compassion and those who are rude, diplay arrogance and disrespect in dealing with members of the public and should be reported for action to be taken against them, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise told thousands of residents who attended the North West Provincial Executive Council’s Public Participation Programme held at Oesonskraal outside Wolmaranstadt on Wednesday.

Premier Modise was responding to allegations that patients at clinics are made to queue in the sun, are neglected and ill-treated during visits. Premier instructed departments to pursue every complaint and or matter raised no matter how small for investigation.

Among some of the other complaints was that police drink at taverns during working hours. Premier committed that MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono and South African Police Service Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Zukiswa Mbombo would follow-up on the complaint and visit the area as similar complaints were raised in the aftermath of the new- year stampede that claimed the lives of ten youths in Ipelegeng township.

MEC Mohono stressed that tension between police and communities impede the onslaught against crime therefore relations between the parties needs to be improved. The MEC urged communities to report their dissatisfaction against police to the Independent Complaints Directorate as police cannot be “referees and players” at the same time.

Mohono said that government relies on communities to fight and uproot corruption.
