Community foot solders capacitated on housing issues

The empowerment of Community Development Workers (CDWs) on housing is regarded as a priority to ensure that they are also on board in terms of the Department of Human Settlements' mandate of ensuring that everyone has adequate housing as stipulated in section 26 of the South African Constitution. This came evident during a Housing Consumer Education Training to CDW's and the Moretele Local Municipality's officials currently held at Carousel Hotel near Hammanskraal.

Organised by the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison in partnership with the National Department of Human Settlements, the two-day workshop is expected to shed light on roles of CDW's and municipal officials in resolving housing challenges and further to improve housing administration at the municipal level. About twenty CDW's from the Moretele Local Municipality are trained on how to present, respond to questions and queries raised by respective housing consumers and communities.

The campaign will end on Saturday, 6 August with an outreach programme to educate the Mathibestad housing beneficiaries of their rights, responsibilities in housing including aftercare and other housing related matters.
