Community Development Workers (CDWs) to be empowered on housing issues

Community Development Workers (CDWs) and municipal housing officials in Moretele Local Municipality in the North West Province are to be empowered on interpretation of the housing code, criterion and available housing options for beneficiaries at a Housing Consumer Education workshop that is to commence on Thursday.

The Housing Consumer Education workshop to be conducted by the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison in partnership with the national Department of Human Settlements mainly intends to capacitate CDWs and officials as housing ambassadors to their respective communities.

The two-day workshop will also shed light on roles of CDWs in resolving problems in housing projects within their areas.

The provincial department will end the workshop with an outreach campaign to educate the Moretele housing beneficiaries of their rights and responsibilities in housing including aftercare and various other housing related matters. The comprehensive community consumer education will be held on Saturday, 6 August 2011 in Makapanstad.

The housing consumer education campaign prepares beneficiaries to make informed choices and manage their roles and responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
